SWAC Athletes compete hard, fall short of 2007 NCAA Track & Field Championships
The Southwestern Athletic Conference will not be represented at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Sacramento, Calif. Several of our athletes ran hard and long, but fell just short of advancing from the Mideast Regional at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Alcorn’s Hughes, Grambling relay team advance to finals in NCAA Track & Field Mideast Regional
Nathaniel Hughes of Alcorn State University advanced to the finals of the 2007 NCAA Mideast Track & Field Regional Championships at the University of Missouri. He placed first in his heat of the men’s 400 meters hurdles. He had the third fastest time overall in the preliminaries at 51.44 seconds.

Two days of competitive volleyball action concluded Saturday afternoon as the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M were crowned the Southwestern Athletic Conference volleyball champions following a spirited five-set match with the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes.

The Grambling State University Lady Tiger soccer team will begin their historic run for the NCAA Soccer Championship in the neighboring state of Texas as they were selected to play against the No. 2 seeded Texas A&M University in the opening round of the tournament in College Station, Texas on Friday, Nov. 10.

Grambling Wins SWAC Soccer Tournament, Earns Trip To NCAA Tourny
The Grambling State Lady Tigers, for the second time in three years, end the SWAC Soccer season with the title of champion. The Lady Tigers defeated the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs 2-1 in overtime action to win the 2006 title.

Nzeakor, Davis and Garcia lead 2006 edition of SWAC All-Conference Soccer Team, Southern's Soto-Ortiz leads All-Academic Team
The votes have been tallied and Grambling State’s Natasha Nzeakor was crowned the 2006 SWAC Soccer Offensive Player of the Year volleyball, with Alabama A&M’s LeTisha Davis selected as Defensive Player of the Year. Jessica Garcia of Prairie View A&M was also chosen as Freshman of the Year.
