2006 NFL Hall of Fame Inductee Carson to Speak at SWAC Football Kickoff Luncheon
Former NFL All-Pro and 2006 NFL Hall of Fame inductee Harry Carson will be the keynote speaker at the 2007 SWAC Football Media Day on Tuesday, July 24. The former New York Giants standout will speak during the kickoff luncheon at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel located on Richard Arrington Boulevard in downtown Birmingham.

Jackson State Wins 2007 SWAC Commissioner’s Cup
The Jackson State University Department of Athletics captured 2007 SWAC Commissioner's Cup (named the Dr. James Frank Award) for overall excellence among its sponsored sports. Prairie View A&M's men's programs captured the "C.D. Henry Award" for the top program among men's sports and Jackson State's women grabbed the "Barbara Jacket / Sadie Magee Award" signifying the top SWAC women's sports program.

SWAC Athletes compete hard, fall short of 2007 NCAA Track & Field Championships
The Southwestern Athletic Conference will not be represented at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Sacramento, Calif. Several of our athletes ran hard and long, but fell just short of advancing from the Mideast Regional at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Alcorn’s Hughes, Grambling relay team advance to finals in NCAA Track & Field Mideast Regional
Nathaniel Hughes of Alcorn State University advanced to the finals of the 2007 NCAA Mideast Track & Field Regional Championships at the University of Missouri. He placed first in his heat of the men’s 400 meters hurdles. He had the third fastest time overall in the preliminaries at 51.44 seconds.

NCAA Announces Robert Vowels as Vice President for Education Services
Robert Vowels, currently the commissioner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, has accepted a position at the National Collegiate Athletic Association as Vice President for Education Services. Vowels will assume his new duties August 1 at the NCAA national office.
