Outdoor Track &Field Championships begins

Birmingham, AL – The Southwestern Athletic Conference will hold its 2007 Outdoor Track & Field Championships on the campus of Troy University in Troy, Alabama.

Competition begins on Friday, April 20 and concludes on Sunday, April 22. Grambling State University will look to defend both men and women’s titles this year against the other nine institutions.
 
Events will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday with 10,000 meter finals. Saturday’s competition will begin at 8:00 a.m. with the decathlon. Championship day will kick off with women’s discus at 9:00 a.m. The women’s 4 x 400 relay finals will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the men’s final will follow at 1:10 p.m. The Lady Jaguars of Southern University won with a time of 46.19 seconds at the 2006 championship. Alabama State University took home the gold on the men’s side with a time of 40.39. The 4 x 400 relays will end the event at 3:50 p.m. for the women and 4:00 for the men. Jackson State University took  the gold for both men and women in 2006.

The awards ceremony will begin immediately after the men’s relay.
